The Greatest England Goalkeepers of All Time

England is home to some of the best football goalkeepers in the world. Since the discovery of soccer, this side of the world has continuously churned out the best goalkeepers ad as the games continue to grow, we are set to witness more great performers. Below we will take a look at some of the most memorable goalkeepers in England:

 

Ron Springett

Springett’s career stretches way back to 1962 when he became the most favorable choice for England at the 1962 World cup that took place in Chile.  During that event, England was able to reach the quarter-finals, with Springett working hard to keep Bulgaria’s goals away.  Although they were eventually knocked out by Brazil, his performance was one of the most impressive in the history of football.

Ray Clemence

Clemence’s first international achievement was when he led his team to qualify for the1972 World. This game also enabled him to achieve his first global clean sheet.

In his 12 years as a general member of the England team, Clemence was able to pull out a total of 61 appearances and kept 27 clean sheets. His achievements made him get recognized for his exemplary performance, and he was awarded an MBE.

David Seaman

Seaman’s international career steered him to become the second most capped England keeper in the history of soccer. He was also recognized for keeping the cleanest sheets one during his debut World Cup in 1998, where England reached the round of 16 against Argentina.

He made 15 years of consecutive appearances setting a great record in football.

Peter Shilton

Looking at the available statistics, we can say that standpoint Shilton is arguably the greatest goalkeeper England has ever had.

He has more than 125 appearances and 26 clean sheets. He is also a proud goalkeeper with a clean sheet percentage of up to 52.8%, a serious achievement in football. He has featured at three World Cups and made a total of 17 appearances within those competitions.

Gordon Banks

Banks is widely believed to be one of the best goalkeepers to have ever played soccer. He made his World Cup debut in 1966, and his skills assisted this team in winning at the World Cup.

After his success at the world cup, he became a highly sought after player and got involved in the 1970 World Cup that was held four years later. Although he later retired due to sickness, Banks remain the only England goalkeeper to have ever won a World Cup.
